  • 1️⃣ How do I get water out of my iPhone or Android speaker?
Play a speaker-cleaning sound at high volume and hold your device with the speaker facing down. Repeat the process two to four times if needed.
→ Start the cleaning sound on the homepage

For iPhones, you will find a more detailed guide here:

  • 2️⃣ Is the speaker-cleaning sound safe for my phone or earbuds?
Yes, when used normally, the speaker-cleaning sound is generally safe for your device. It uses sound waves to help loosen water and small particles without opening the phone or using liquids.

    • No strong vibrations or magnetic fields
The sound only creates acoustic vibrations from the speaker. It does not create strong shaking or magnetic effects.

    • Is the sound also safe for your hearing?
The 150 to 5000 Hz sweep is usually not a problem during normal use. Still, keep some distance and do not hold the speaker directly to your ear while the sound is playing.
  • 3️⃣ How does Fix My Speakers work?
Fix My Speakers uses a sweep sound with a frequency range from 150 to 5000 Hz. The sound moves continuously from low to high frequencies, creating vibrations that may help loosen water, dust or small particles from the speaker.

If the standard sound does not help enough, you can also try other speaker cleaner sounds.

  • 4️⃣What should I do first if there is water in my speaker?
    • Turn the volume down and avoid playing unnecessary audio.
    • Hold the phone with the speaker facing down.
    • Gently dab the outside with a cloth or paper towel.
    • Let the device dry for 10–30 minutes with the speaker facing down.
  • 5️⃣ What should I avoid?
    • Do not use rice — small particles can get into the speaker opening.
    • Do not pour liquids or alcohol into the openings.
    • Do not use a hair dryer or hot air — heat can damage parts and materials.
    • Do not use sharp objects.
  • 6️⃣ How often can I use Fix My Speakers?
You can use Fix My Speakers when needed. For effective cleaning, it is usually enough to play the sound two to four times in a row.

Occasional use for prevention can also make sense, because dust and small particles may collect in the speaker over time. Once or twice a week is usually fine, as long as you do not play the sound unnecessarily long and only use as much volume as needed.
  • 7️⃣ Which devices can I use Fix My Speakers with?
Fix My Speakers can be used on many devices with built-in speakers. How well the sound works depends on the device and on the type of moisture, dust or dirt.

Smartphones — iPhones, Android devices and other phones
Tablets — iPads and Android tablets
Earbuds & AirPods — Bluetooth and wired models with speaker grilles
Other devices — sometimes also smartwatches or compact speakers
  • 8️⃣ Can Fix My Speakers clean speakers in desktop computers, TVs or stereo systems?
Fix My Speakers is mainly designed for mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets and earbuds. With larger speakers in desktop computers, TVs or stereo systems, the sound may sometimes loosen light dust or small particles, but the effect is often limited.

For larger speakers, other cleaning methods are usually more useful:
    • careful manual cleaning with a soft, dry cloth
    • short bursts of compressed air from a safe distance
    • professional inspection if the speaker is very dirty or the sound is distorted
  • 9️⃣ How do I use Fix My Speakers correctly?
    1. Turn the volume up.
    2. Hold the device with the speaker facing down.
    3. Start the speaker-cleaning sound on the homepage. The sound lasts about 40 seconds.
    4. Repeat two to four times if needed.
    5. Let the device dry for a few more minutes afterwards.

If the sound is too loud, keep some distance and do not hold the speaker directly to your ear.

  • 🔟 The sound did not help — what can I do?
If your speaker still sounds muffled after several runs, try these next steps:

    1. Repeat the speaker-cleaning sound
Play the sound two to four more times in a row.

If the standard sound does not help enough, you can also try other speaker cleaner sounds.
→ Test more speaker cleaner sounds

    2. Let the device dry
After water contact, there may still be moisture inside the device. Leave it in a dry place for a few hours.

    3. Clean the speaker grille carefully by hand
If dust or dirt is blocking the speaker grille, careful manual cleaning may help:
    • a soft brush, such as a paintbrush or toothbrush
    • short bursts of compressed air from a safe distance
    • no water and no alcohol

    4. Check for a technical defect
If the speaker still sounds muffled or silent afterwards, there may be a hardware problem. In that case, the device should be checked by a professional.
  • 1️⃣1️⃣ Can I use Fix My Speakers without an internet connection?
Fix My Speakers works directly in your browser and usually needs an internet connection. If you only lose internet access for a short time, it may help to load the website first and keep it open.
  • 1️⃣2️⃣ Can the speaker-cleaning sound also help with dust and dirt in the speaker?
Yes, with light dust and loose dirt, the speaker-cleaning sound may help loosen small particles and improve the sound. It usually works best when the speaker is still audible but sounds muffled.
If dirt is stuck firmly in the speaker grille, sound alone is often not enough. In that case, careful manual cleaning may be more useful.
  • 1️⃣3️⃣ Which speaker-cleaning sound is better: sweep, 165 Hz or pulsed sound?
It depends on the speaker, the device and the type of moisture, dust or dirt. Our main cleaning sound is a sweep from 150 to 5000 Hz and is a good first option for general use.
If it does not help enough, other sound types may also be useful, such as a fixed 165 Hz tone, a low-frequency sweep or a pulsed sound.
  • 1️⃣4️⃣ Does the speaker-cleaning sound help after contact with salt water or seawater?
Only partly. After contact with salt water or seawater, you should first rinse the device carefully with fresh water if the manufacturer recommends it, because salt residue can be much more harmful to electronics than normal water.
After that, the speaker-cleaning sound may help move remaining moisture out of the speaker, but it does not replace proper drying or further inspection if the sound stays muffled or other problems appear.
